It doesn't have to cost money and it doesn't have to be time consuming either—although the best types of self-care activities tend to fall into those categories anyway!

We all need and deserve to take some time for ourselves every now and again; it keeps us healthy both physically and mentally!

Learn to say no.
The first step to self-care is learning to say no.
This is one of the hardest things for most people, but it’s also an important part of taking care of yourself. The truth is that you can’t be everything to everyone; in fact, if you try to be everything – be perfect, and do everything perfectly – then nothing gets done at all! It’s also important not feel guilty about saying no. People always want more from us than we can give, and so learning how to say no might feel like a rejection or an act of cruelty toward them (but it isn't).
Self-care means knowing what your limits are so that others don't run up against them unintentionally and inadvertently hurt themselves by expecting too much from you (and thus causing harm). This doesn't mean there aren't times when saying yes makes sense: if someone with evident need asks for help then by all means give it freely without hesitation or guilt! But otherwise remember that saying no does not mean being selfish; rather it means loving yourself enough so that you know what's best for yourself (and sometimes other people too).

As a person who has suffered from depression and anxiety, I know firsthand how difficult self care can be when you're in a bad place. But the truth is that taking time for yourself has a lot more benefits than just making you feel better. When you take time to nourish yourself physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally—you are setting yourself up for success in all areas of life.
Taking steps towards improving your self-care routine can help prevent some of the negative effects that come with stress such as anxiety disorders or even major depressive disorder (MDD). It also makes it easier to deal with other problems such as chronic pain or getting sick because there are fewer things bogging down on your mind at once. Self-care can lead people towards healthier lifestyle choices like eating healthier food choices or exercising more often which also have positive effects on their overall health as well!
